Where do you live?
I have lived in Redland City - Thornlands - for approx 5 years. It is conveniently located between the cities of Brisbane to the north (my work place), and the Gold Coast beaches (my relaxation place) to the south.

How did you come to work for the North Surveys group?
In 2006 I began my immigration process from South Africa to Australia. After interviews with a number of survey firms, North Surveys was my employer of choice, and I was offered a position in their Brisbane Office. They sponsored me on the 457 working Visa, and provided support for my permanent residence status.

What did you know about North Surveys before you started?
Having lived in South Africa, I didn't know they existed. A search for "Australian Brisbane Surveying industry award winners" on Google introduced me to North Surveys.

What is your role at North Surveys?
I wear a number of hard-hats within the company. My first hat is a Senior Engineering Surveyor, my second hat is the Quality Management Representative, and my third hat is the Workplace Health and Safety Representative.

How long have you been with North Surveys?
I joined the North Surveys team in 2007.

Describe a typical day at North Surveys.
My typical day would be wearing one or two of the hats mentioned above. Occasionally I may even score a Hat-Trick!

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your job?
Working on a variety of challenging projects, and getting to visit those parts of Australia that most people do not get to see.

What major projects have you worked on?
I was the senior surveyor on the following Projects:
1. BP refinery Flare Infrastructure Project
2. John Holland Shiploader Construction Project
3. New General Purpose Wharf Construction Port of Brisbane
4. Brisbane Airport Fuel Line and Pit Monitoring Project
5. North Western Australia -Mine Reclaimer and Stacker Rail Surveys.
6. Australia wide - 3D Scanning and Control Surveys at Coal Handling Process Plants
7. Queensland - Mobile 3D Scanning and Quality Control Surveys on approx 5000 Km of road networks.

What makes North Surveys a great place to work?
Senior Management are readily approachable. Surveyors, Draughtsmen and Town Planners are always willing to share knowledge and support. You may feel isolated out on the job site, but there is a guaranteed assurance of back-up from a willing team of professionals at head office.

Do you participate in any of North Surveys' social activities?
I have competed with the North Surveys Surfing Team in the Corporate Surf Comp. I have experienced sea sickness, good fishing and snorkelling on a few of the North Surveys Fishing trips. I experienced great surfing, good company, slow fishing at the North Surveys Beach Camping weekend.

Where do you live?

How did you come to work for the North Surveys group?
Moving from New Zealand, I sort out a planning consultancy to further my planning career.

What is your role at North Surveys?
Senior Town Planner based in the Brisbane office.

How long have you been with North Surveys?
I started with North Surveys in 2005.

Describe a typical day at North Surveys.
A typical day for me generally involves the preparation and lodgement of development applications. We have a variety of different projects, each with their own unique set of challenges, so no two days are the same.

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your job?
I have a number of clients and wide variety of projects to work on at any one time. Many projects are challenging and sometimes require careful management to ensure a positive outcome for clients.

What projects have you worked on?
I have worked on a number of large projects including a 2000 lot subdivision at Gatton, a 400 lot subdivision at Laidley and a mixed use preliminary approval at Tannum Sands.

What makes North Surveys a great place to work?
I enjoy working with a great team of people on a wide variety of projects. Also the flexibility the company offers is important. I have been given the opportunity to grow into my present position by being given more responsibility and training which is part of the Norths philosophy.

Do you participate in any of North Survey's social activities?
Yes, I attend social activities which have included Christmas parties, awards dinners and regular staff barbeques. We also do fun runs together and have had a touch footy team.

What does North Surveys offer you that other companies don't?
A wide variety of projects to work on, flexibility in working hours and we laugh a lot.

What did you know about North Surveys before you started?
Progressive company. It was going places and heard staff morale was pretty good.

What is your role at North Surveys?
Draftsman and Mobile Laser Scanning Data Processing

How long have you been with North Surveys?
I started in April 2007

Describe a typical day at North Surveys.
Chaos! Only joking, no typical day. new challenges every day

What is the most enjoyable aspect of your job?
Flexible hours, self-managed approach.

What projects have you worked on?
Variety of small mum and dad cadastral/Town planning jobs right up to large budget mobile scan jobs.

What makes North Surveys a great place to work?
The flexible hours, the variety of work and the unknown of where and what you will be doing and learning and we tend to laugh out loud a fair bit

Do you participate in any of North Surveys's social activities?
Yes most, from football tipping competitions to the social Friday lunch.

What does North Surveys offer you that other companies don't?
Flexible hours. Some companies say it but you find there are limitations when you get there. Because of the self-managed approach the company is able to achieve this. North surveys grows the employee by providing me with support and mentoring.
